What it's for

Money has started coming in and going out, and you want to keep it straight without accounting software. This is education, not legal or tax advice.

What you'll need: About 20 minutes to set up, then 10 to 15 minutes a week. Your bank app. Google Sheets (free) or Microsoft Excel, or a notebook with two columns. Nothing to buy.

Pairs well with

What you'll leave with

  • One line for every payment in or out, with a category.
  • Monthly totals that fill themselves in: money in, money out and what's left.
  • An amount to set aside for taxes each month, using the share you choose.
  • What's left after the set-aside.
