What it's for

You're setting or checking a price and want to know it covers your costs and pays you for your time.

What you'll need: About 30 minutes. Google Sheets (free) or Microsoft Excel, or a pen and a calculator. Nothing to buy.

Pairs well with

What you'll leave with

  • What one job costs you, from supplies to travel.
  • All the hours one job really takes, including travel, quotes and messages.
  • A suggested price built from the bottom up, with a small buffer and any payment fees.
  • What others charge for a similar job: lowest, highest and average.
  • What you'd really keep per job, per hour and per month at the price you choose.

Tips

  • Time a few real jobs. Guessed hours are usually too low.
  • Change one number and watch everything update. It's a quick way to test ideas.
  • What you keep is before income tax and yearly costs like insurance. This is education, not tax or financial advice.
