What it's for

You're reaching out to people one at a time to find your first customers. You need to remember who you messaged, who answered and who needs a reminder. It's a free mini customer list.

What you'll need: About 30 minutes to build your first list, then a few minutes a day while you're reaching out. Google Sheets (free) or Microsoft Excel, or a notebook. Nothing to buy.

Pairs well with

What you'll leave with

  • A list of about 20 people: how you know them and the best way to reach them.
  • What you sent, when, and what they said.
  • Next steps with dates, and a flag on anything overdue or due this week.
  • Counts of messages, replies, reply rate, customers and money from the list.

  7. Read the resultsEach week, check the Status column and the counts at the top. Follow up once after a week with no reply, then let it go.

Tips

  • Read every message before you send it, and make sure it sounds like you.
  • One follow-up is kind. More than that is pestering.
  • This works well for your first 50 to 100 people. After that, a free customer list tool may help.

Three formats, one purchase

  • Google SheetsMake a copy in your Google Drive and type straight into it.
  • Microsoft ExcelDownload and fill it in on your computer.
  • PDFPrint it and fill it in with a pen.
