What it's for

You do the same task again and again, and it usually goes well. You've caught yourself thinking, "if only someone else could do this part."

What you'll need: About 90 minutes of writing, plus one real job to test on. A pen, your phone (for notes or voice memos), and if possible a friend or family member willing to try your instructions. Nothing to buy.

Pairs well with

What you'll leave with

  • One task chosen on purpose: proven, repeating and worth writing down.
  • Clear edges: where the task starts, where it ends, and what it leaves out.
  • Short, numbered instructions written for someone who has never done it.
  • A test on a real job, with every gap found and fixed, and a named owner for the outcome.
  • A one-page My First Process sheet you can copy for the next one.

Tips

  • Record a voice memo while you do the task. It catches the steps you do without thinking.
  • One good process, tested and working, is worth more than twenty nobody uses.
  • Test it more than once. The questions usually stop by the second or third try.

Three formats, one purchase
